Fortunately, the larger symptoms tend to decrease as the baby grows older and sleeping more hours.

  • Difficulty concentrating;

  • Hallucinations;
  • Paranoia;
  • Fatigue;
  • General malaise;
  • Pain in the body;
  • Abdominal pain and diarrhea;
  • Increased appetite and weight gain;
  • Decrease the immune response;
  • Double vision and vision problems;
  • Acne;
  • Wrinkles;
  • Low sexual appetite;
  • Low blood pressure;

It is important that the newly moms to sleep the most that you can. Sleep deprivation can be a saddle to the post-partum depression.

If symptoms are excessive it is advisable to consult the treating doctor.

HOW MANY HOURS OF SLEEP NEED A WOMAN WHO IS BREASTFEEDING?

Newborns sleep most of the day. However, since they need to feed every 2 or 3 hours, the mothers are not able to sleep more than 1 to 2 hours of sleep in a row.

Women who are breastfeeding need the same number of hours of sleep that an adult needs between 7 to 9 hours of sleep without interruption. However, this is not possible. Still that sleep this many hours, the sleep is interrupted every 1 or 2 hours.

It is for this reason that the newly-mums are advised to sleep whenever your baby sleeps, trying to complete the 7 to 9 hours of sleep daily.

HOW TO DEAL WITH SLEEP DEPRIVATION?

Around 6 weeks after the birth, milk production begins to stabilize, making breastfeeding easier and more comfortable. The baby may also start sleeping and taking naps longer and sleeps higher during the night. These periods of time are increasing as the baby grows older.

There are babies that sleep all night then also there are those who agree on every 2 or 3 hours. There is no 2 babies are alike. Babies may wake up more at night, or because you are hungry, or you are passing by a spike growth or because they want the comfort of sucking the mother’s nipple.

The health of the mother should not be forgotten. To take good care of your baby, the mother needs to take good care of yourself first.

There are several tips that can help you cope with the sleep deprivation. However, each family deals with this problem in the way that suits you fit.

DURING THE NIGHT

  • During the first weeks of a baby’s life, it is important that you keep it close to the body of the mother, to establish the emotional bond and to produce milk proper;
  • For mothers who breastfeed, the co-sleeping is a good option. Maintain the cot of the baby in the parents ‘ room is also a possibility;
  • Breastfeeding your baby in the lying position can be a good option for during the night;
  • Put the baby in the crib drowsy but still awake;
  • If possible, the ideal is to sleep when the baby sleeps;
  • When the baby is sleeping at night, the mother should go to sleep also;
  • So, that breastfeeding is well established, use objects of transition as the pacifier or a doudou, for example, to comfort the baby during the night;
  • If possible, ask the partner or another family member that packs, or fall asleep while the baby;
  • Removing milk for the night nursing is another possibility, that the partner give the bottle;
  • To create an environment conducive to sleep, with few stimuli, little or no light and the pleasant temperature;
  • The seedlings of the diaper during the night should be quick and with the least amount of light possible.

DURING THE DAY

  • Whenever the baby makes a siesta, the mother should try to sleep also;
  • The mother should maintain a healthy and balanced diet. Mother that breastfeeding mothers require 300 to 400 extra calories for milk production;
  • Drink at least 2 litres of water throughout the day;
  • Go for walks or exercise help you relax and release endorphins, which give the feeling of happiness and well-being;
  • The mother should keep quiet and not stressing over that with the arrangement of the house. If necessary and if possible, can be considered the hiring a cleaning lady or a nanny;
  • Maintain the daily schedule without any major commitments that may cause anxiety and stress;
  • The mother should laugh at funny things that is due to sleep deprivation, such as leaving the keys in the refrigerator, for example;
  • If possible, ask for help from friends or family is an option;
  • Create a sleep routine and naps of the baby so that the mother can rest at the same time.
